The Certificate in Grantsmanship is a Level 3 online course for volunteer fundraisers
and community leaders working to set up, manage and sustain local community projects.
This accredited short course covers the skills required to be a successful and creative
fundraising all-rounder.
This course uses a virtual classroom that enables you to learn with members of other
groups from all over the UK. The class is tutor-led with plenty of online discussion
and networking. Accredited by the Open College, courses also lead to a certificate
in e-learning skills.
A course brochure and costs are available from Fundraising

Futurebuilders England is the
government backed £215 million investment fund to help
the voluntary and community sector deliver better public services. The fund provides
a combination of grants and loans for organisations that deliver public services and
earn revenue by forming contracts with public sector agencies.
Since the launch of Futurebuilders England (FBE) in 2004, over 100 organisations have
benefited from more than £36 million worth of loans and
grants, known as 'investments'.
Key data from FBE's first year of work:
-
More than 70% of FBE's investees have not borrowed before
-
26% of applicants and 24% of investees are black and minority ethnic (BME) managed
VCOs
-
Loans and guarantees make up 85% of total investments: nearly half the loans are unsecured
-
80% of loans are for buildings or refurbishment and 20% for working capital
-
Just over half of investees received a larger investment than they originally requested
-
95% of investees receiving development grants intend to re-apply for a full investment
within six months
Futurebuilders England (see above) will be open for applications continuously from
May 2006. The fund is changing its application process, from fixed windows to continuous
opening, in order to better respond to the needs of the voluntary and community sector.
Futurebuilders' Chief Executive, Richard Gutch, explained: "We recognise that voluntary
and community groups want to approach us for finance and support at any time of year,
and that their funding requirements won't necessarily fit into a three-month slot.
We are keen to give groups the widest possible opportunity to develop their business
plans and respond quickly to potential purchasers of their services. So from May this
year organisations can submit proposals when it suits them."
